Seren Devismes

Seren Devismes is a stunning Rock, Pop, Soul, Soprano vocalist who is also a classically trained Opera singer with a bachelors of music degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Born in Shropshire she has been performing ever since the age of nine, when she won her first local competition and was subsequently asked to sing at Wrexham FC half time and switch the town’s Christmas lights on. This success was continued, with regular performances, including a charity concert with Trelawnyd male voice choir and being asked to partake in a Masterclass led by renowned director Gareth Valentine. Seren was lucky enough to be taken on as a student by the late Opera legend, Joan Carlyle, who not only mentored her in singing but also performance. In 2016, Seren was cast in her first main role as Dorothy in Lakelands Academy’s production of The Wizard OF Oz.

Seren was then offered the prestigious Walker Music Scholarship at Ellesmere College and went on to compete in several competitions, including The Oswestry Music Festival, receiving individual honours in numerous classes, with distinctions in the opera classes. In 2017 Seren was selected from 300 students from Woodard schools around the country to represent the college in the ‘Woodard schools’ Musician of the Year,’ at the Elgar Hall. This was adjudicated by Julian Lloyd Webber who was impressed by the “strong performance”. Seren took part in The Rotary Young Musician of the Year Competition and went on to compete in the Great Britain and Ireland National finals, in Edinburgh.

Seren also took part in competitions with the Ellesmere College Chapel and Chamber Choir as first soprano, a highlight of which included Barnado’s Youth Choral Competition at The Royal Albert Hall.

Seren was also given the opportunity to sing in a variety of historic Roman buildings with the Ellesmere College Choir, including St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, The Pantheon in Rome, where Seren was the lead soloist, as well as the Cathedral in Ravello, Sorrento.
On leaving Ellesmere college Seren was presented with two awards, the Music Award and The Marilyn Amako cup for Vocal Excellence.

Seren has also taken part in a number of concerts as a soloist and lead soprano, including first soprano and guest soloist in a Mozart and Handel concert with the Oswestry Ladies’ choir conducted by musical director Dawn Jaffray, as well as Carmina Burana and Mozart’s Requiem which included a masterclass with Paul Spicer. She was also asked to be the main soloist in A last Night Of The Proms to conclude the evening with Rule Britannia , accompanied by the Shrewsbury light orchestra, conducted by Tony Coupe.

In 2018 Seren was offered scholarships at both The Royal Birmingham and Royal Welsh Conservatoires, and accepted the place at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire after conversing with Julian Lloyd Webber, whilst taking part in the Woodard competition. From then Seren has taken part as vocal soloist in the Recorder Department concert in 2018, has performed in lunchtime concerts, end of year recitals and Opera Scenes which included roles such as a witch in Verdi’s ‘Macbeth,’ Pamina in Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute,’ Lady Ella in Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Patience,’ Louise in Charpentier’s ‘Louise’ and the opera ‘The Enchanted Island,’ in 2020, just before the pandemic. Seren was due to take part in Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s production of ‘Elektra’ and other Operas planned by the Conservatoire but some of these concerts were cancelled due to the onset of the coronavirus.

Seren recently joined the Grand Northern Group working with Producer Alexander Johnston and the GNG team and signed to Velmont Records. She is due and to recording her debut single and album for release in 2023 /24. She has just finished recording backing vocals on the new Alexander O’Neal album and there are collaborations in the works for 2024.
